Living with Uncertainty June 3, 2015 – Posted in: Confidence – Tags: , , , , , ,

I was coaching a client yesterday who had come to the realisation that the only certainty in life is uncertainty.

It’s one of those tricky paradoxes that we all live with on a daily basis; some days more keenly than others. None of us know what’s going to happen later today, tomorrow or next week. We have our plans and our hopes but sometimes life has other ideas.

What makes this hard, I think, is that it’s human nature to want certainty. It’s also human nature to want to control everything!

So, what’s the solution?

Acceptance and trust are my go-to antidotes to this dichotomy. I have enough faith in life (by which I mean the force of life some call Consciousness, others call God, others call Nature) to accept what happens and trust that on some level things are working out as they must. I often don’t like what happens but resisting it sure doesn’t help!

I also find that living in today is hugely helpful as I can do my best today and trust that tomorrow I’ll do the same. My best is, after all, all I have.
